Production Wardrobe
This is going to be an exciting year for contestants, because we will be doing our finals competition on Friday night on the Miss Missouri stage. Contestants will also be doing their preliminary evening gown competitions during the Miss Missouri preliminary nights on Wed. and Thurs., as well as being a part of the Miss Missouri production numbers for all nights, including Saturday during the TV filming! Our preliminary teen competition will take place on Thursday during the day.
Because you will be doing different things at different venues, we are going to keep things simple for you and still make sure each girl has her time in the spotlight. We’ve tried to double up on wardrobe whenever we can so you don’t have to buy extra outfits. We don’t want you to stress about things, so don’t worry. You will get all the details at orientation, but here are the wardrobe basics for you to start thinking about! Erin Engelmeyer and Kelley Marchbanks will be at orientation to answer all your questions and give you all the details. It is going to be a fun pageant!!!!
If you have any questions, you may contact terri_rohlfing@hotmail.com.
Opening Production – Teen Preliminaries
Jeans and any colored top (not black or white). Tops can be any style with or without embellishment. Jeans can be the same jeans you wear for the Miss Missouri opening production number.
Opening Production –Miss Missouri
Jeans and red tank top (tank top provided by Outstanding Teen). You will try on the top for size at orientation and then it will be ordered for you.
Lifestyle and Fitness in Sportswear – Teen Preliminaries and Finals
Red tank top (used in opening production for Miss Missouri) and black shorts of your choice.
You will need to record a short (10 second) statement for this competition to be recorded at orientation. You may read from a written format for the recording if you wish. It will be audio only, and will play behind your modeling for this competition. It will introduce you and tell a little about they types of fitness activities you are involved in. Below is an example of the type of introduction that would be appropriate for recording:
“I started riding horses before I could walk. At least, that’s what they tell me. I am also on the varsity track team at my high school, where my favorite event is the hurdles. Athletic competitions have taught me responsibility, integrity, and how to be both a good winner and a good loser. I am Kelley Marchbanks.”
Evening Gown – Teen Preliminaries and Finals
Any evening wear of your choosing. It should be TEEN APPROPRIATE (avoid low plunging necklines and high slits). It does not have to be a ball gown.
Teen Preliminaries closing number
Contestants will have a closing evening gown number during the teen preliminary competition on Thurs. You may choose to wear your competition evening gown, your Miss Missouri production gown (see below), or another gown of your choice.
Miss Missouri Closing Production
Contestants will wear either a black evening gown or a white evening gown. (They may ONLY have silver embellishments, if any). White gowns must be PURE white – not cream, off-white, champagne, etc. Contestants will know the color of their gown at orientation. It will be part of the lottery process. Do not purchase or borrow a gown for this number until after orientation when you know your assigned color.
Talent
Your talent wardrobe is up to you. Props should be MINIMAL and only what is NECESSARY for your performance.
Interview
You should wear something that would be considered TEEN “business casual.” Although you may wear a suit, you may also wear a dress, skirt and top, pants and a sweater, or anything in which you feel comfortable and confident. You are a teen and should look like a teen. There will not be an opening this year, and a closing is optional. You will stand for your interview.
Parade
Teens will ride in the parade again this year on Sat. morning. You may choose to wear an outfit of your choice. Sundresses, dressy short outfits, pants and a top, or jumpsuits would all be appropriate. Most years it’s warm, but not always, so plan for the weather!
Important General News and Announcements
Although it was previously announced that MMOT State Competition would be the same as last year, Miss Missouri is considering a few changes that should be determined soon. However, pageant week for MMOT will be the same as Miss Missouri week, as it has been in the past. We will let you know as soon as everything is finalized.
Contestants At Large
If you are going to compete for the title of Missouri’s Outstanding Teen as an “At Large” contestant, you will need to attend orientation. You also should fill out the “Winner Notification Form” found on the forms page link. Please be sure to fill out all paperwork to turn in at orientation. Contact Kay Lea to let her know you plan to compete ASAP if you have not already done so. We want to make sure that you have all the information you need to have a great experience at the pageant!
Active Wear Introductions
If you were at the pageant last year, you know that contestants introduced themselves for the active wear competition. We had lots of positive feedback on this and so we’d like to do that same thing again this year. When you come to orientation, please be prepared to tape your active wear introduction. You should write a SHORT (10 seconds) statement that will tell the judges something about physical fitness activities or sports that you enjoy. It should end with your name. For example:
"I started riding horses before I could walk. At least that’s what they tell me. During high school, I also competed in gymnastics and was on the track team. Long distance running is MY event. Staying fit keeps me feeling fine – inside and out. I am Kelley Marchbanks."
Specific information on the active wear outfit will be presented at orientation. The outfit will be uniform for all contestants this year. We will be following the guidelines that are coming from nationals, so that our titleholder will be familiar with how this competition will run for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition in August.
Orientation Crown Chic Trunk Show
This year Crown Chic will be presenting a trunk showing of several evening wear designers at our orientation. This exciting opportunity will be offered to anyone who would like to take advantage of this by calling Crown Chic directly to make an appointment. 913-248-7800.
